Traffic Info Mapping

Future Traffic Projections

Detailed traffic analyses have been performed on the alternatives that have been carried forward. Traffic volumes associated with each alternative have been forecasted for the year 2003 by the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission. The project team utilized these volumes to determine the number of lanes, intersection configurations, and other traffic characteristics required for each alternative.

Based on the analysis of these volumes for key segments in the project area, conclusions were made. As part of each alternative, left-turn traffic from Route 228 would not be permitted from Route 19 east to Route 8. In high traffic areas, frontage roads and grade-separations were introduced. As the design progresses, the project team will analyze each intersection along Route 228 to determine the best design for each location while maintaining consistency in prohibiting left-turn traffic.
