The Community Involvement Program

The Community Involvement Program is in place to generate public participation by exchanging information in various forms with the residential and business communities. PennDOT's goal is to keep the public informed regularly and invite input through each stage of the project development process. Public involvement is an integral part of the project development process, ensuring that the public is provided the tools and knowledge that will foster an understanding of the project development process and how decisions are reached. PennDOT has been working closely with various segments of the community to ensure the proper information is being communicated to the public in a timely manner.

From the onset of the project, numerous Public Meetings, Land Use Meetings, CAC Meetings, and Special Focus Meetings have occurred.
Please use the links above to see more information regarding Public Hearings, Public Meetings, and the CAC. There is also an overview of all the Public Involvement Activities.

The Route 228 Improvement Project logo was the result of a student contest. There were 400 entries received and 18 students were honored as semi-finalists. The winning entry was designed Lindsay Metkler, who was a 12th grade student at the Mars Area High School.

From the 18 logos submitted, four were picked to be finalists and Lindsay's logo was selected as the winner. She was presented with a $50 gift certificate to a local art supply store and a coupon to spend the day with the PennDOT.
