The Community Advisory Committee (CAC) for the Route 228 Improvement Project has played an important role in the project. CAC members were nominated because they represent the local community and stakeholders. They have volunteered their time selflessly, attending 11 CAC meetings and countless special group meetings.
“The CAC was a tremendous sounding board for us through the process. This corridor presented many challenges to the Project Team as it is located within one of the fastest growing regions in the Commonwealth,” said PennDOT District 10 Executive Joseph P. Dubovi III, P.E. “The people who volunteered their time to help us deserve the thanks. During every phase, the CAC members were an excellent public touchpoint to gauge how to move forward,” Dubovi said.
CAC member Rob Shekel, former Executive Director of the Mars Home for Youth, passed away August 2006. His commitment to this project is remembered with thankfulness.
Several sub-committees to the CAC have been developed in the areas of the school, eastern termini and western termini to discuss each of the alternatives in more detail.
Throughout the project development process, CAC Sub-committee meetings are being held in addition to special group meetings. In July 2003, the Project Team held three sub-committee meetings to discuss each of the focus areas in more detail. These meetings were held to discuss the alternatives in the western and eastern termini of the project as well as the area near the schools. CAC members representing these areas, along with other stakeholders from the area, were invited to participate in the meetings. During the meetings, the groups participated in brainstorming sessions where they identified strengths, weakness, challenges and opportunities related to each alternative in each specific area of the project. The project team has worked to address the issues discussed.
